A Venice MUST! We stop here on our trips to Venice. Get out of the tourist areas and enjoy authentic local. It is a great place to sip a glass of wine and enjoy some amazing local flavor.
We came at around 2:30pm and it wasn't full. There was another bar pretty close to this one that had a line out the door but this place was quiet.
We ordered 4 of the cicchetti and a prosecco. I can't tell you exactly which cicchetti we got as there are no tags on any of them BUT they were all delicious so just pick blindly. This was another great recommendation by Anthony Bourdain.
The servers/barmen aren't particularly friendly but don't let that deter you and just order. You order at the bar and pay. Then you sit and enjoy.
I would definitely recommend it to people visiting Venice
This is one of the oldest Cantinas is all of Venice. It is very cool and a great spot to stop a glass of wine and some cicchetti (small quick food items.
What a fun little hole-in-the-wall! Recommended to this wine bar by some fellow travelers, we were surprised by how much we enjoyed our time here.
Everything is cicchetti, so small breads with toppings, or some type of salumi, and my husband and I had the best time sitting at the bar and slowly eating our way through the display cabinets. The house wine was also great, especially for the price, and the only downside I found to the place was that it was quite expensive when we were all finished up.
All in all, I would definitely return and recommend others to do so. I’d give it 4.5 stars.
Well…this review is hard. The place, the history, the atmosphere is 5 stars or more!
Now the food it is actually less than 4. We arrived at 14:15, not that off from lunch time. They serve us cold everything, even the meat balls. The cheese was great, but the rest, honestly not very impressed. And we were five, this is not only my opinion. The wine was very good, red and wine, both. The server was efficient and quick, maybe not the friendliest, but again, considering the place and being only one running the whole shop it makes sense.
Apparently the oldest wine bar in Venice, & the decor shows it - which is pretty cool. Was cool to have a glass of wine (standing room only indoors and outdoors), but the cicchetti options felt pretty limited vs the others in the area (like All'Arco) on a Thurs at 115pm. There were several cheese options though, which I didn't see in the others.
I'd come back and try again.
If visiting Venice, check out the oldest cantina in town - Cantina Do Mori. It is like stepping back in time, away from all the crowds & all the look a like restaurants.
They will give very good recommendations from a wealth of wine knowledge & have a range of tapas style bites.
The visitor arriving in Cantina Do Mori is still transported into another world, one whose atmosphere and beauty remain incomparable
Anthony Bourdain sent me here. It lived up to the expectations. Perfect spot for cicchetti (appetizers). I could post up here all day. The place is small!
